Blessing David Oniyide, Born in 2002 in Ila Orangun, Osun State, Nigeria, is a talented visual artist whose journey into the world of art began at a young age. After completing his education at Camila High School in 2018, he made a significant move to Lagos State in 2019, driven by his passion for pursuing a career in art. His artistic focus is deeply rooted in addressing societal and mental health issues that affect underprivileged children, a theme that resonates throughout his body of work.
From his childhood Blessing showed interest in drawing, often expressing his creativity through cartoons. This early fascination laid the foundation for his artistic journey. During his high school years, he had the privilege of learning drawing techniques from his brother, who is also an artist. This mentorship played a crucial role in shaping Blessing’s skills and understanding of the art form. It was under his brother’s guidance that he learned his ability to translate his thoughts and emotions onto the canvas.
Blessing started experimenting with various medium and techniques as he learned more about the art world. He first concentrated on pencil drawings, captivated by the precision and detail that could be achieved with this medium. But he quickly discovered that hyperrealistic artist like Stanley Arinze and Oscar Ukonu creations inspired him, their ability to produce realistic work inspired Blessing to push the limit of his own artistic vision.
In an effort to refine his technique and reduce his reliance on erasers, Blessing made a significant transition from pencil to pen and ink. This shift not only challenged him creatively but also allowed him to embrace the imperfections that come with the medium. By working with pen, he discover a new level of freedom in his art, as each stroke become a permanent part of the piece, encouraging him to think more critically about his approach to drawing.
Blessing’s art is not just a reflection of his technical skills, it also a powerful commentary on the issues that plague society, particularly concerning children from underprivileged backgrounds. He believes that art has the potential to raise awareness and inspire change, and he uses his platform to shed light on the struggles faced by these children. Through his work, he aim to evoke empathy and understanding, encouraging viewers to engage with societal challenges that often go unnoticed.
